And another project has begun...

This is the beginning swatch for the Duchess Cable Yoke Coat which can be found in CEY Autumn, Book 2. The first time I saw this pattern, I knew I needed to knit it. And with the help of Alex at Soft Horizons Fiber, I have found the pattern, hooray! So then, with the assist of Sharon (at same LYS), I now have the color chosen. I'm going with Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Superwash Bulky in Red Baron, Dye Lot #003 Color # 81. It's going to take about 10 balls of this color for a size medium.

So, today I knit a swatch of the stitch pattern, Smock Stitch, of which I have never done before. To my surprise, this is a very easy stitch to knit and memorize. What I've ended up with so far is an 11" long piece that I will make into a bag once I knit the back piece for it. So far the gauge works. I'm pretty excited about that!
Above is a pic of the swatch.

~More to come later on the bag/coat progress...
